The Kia Sorento is probably one of the best value for money crossovers out there, offering great interior space, good fuel economy and decent performance for the same price as a mid-size sedan. On top of all that, it is going to look a lot better than the previous model and on the interior it will not only be more comfortable but also better put together. Improvements over the 2014 model are going to include a redesigned back which is going to look a lot cleaner, a slightly updated interior as well as it will get a few changes under the hood.
Just like before, it will share its platform with both the new Santa Fe as well as the new Carnival, meaning the Sorento will get the best of both worlds. From what they announced so far it seems that the new car will slightly drop in price with the base model going for as low as 23.000 dollars, making it even cheaper than smaller cars. At this price point however don’t expect it to come fully loaded but rather a shell of what you can get. The car has been officially released a couple of months back but the market availability is going to commence by the end of January 2015.
2015 Kia Sorento engine
Under the hood of the 2015 Kida Sorento there are going to be two different engines available. The base is the same one as in the 2014 model, a 2.4 liter aspirated inline 4 which is good for up to 191 horsepower and nearly 180 lb-ft of torque, making it suitable for on-road use and nothing more. It will easily get 23 MPG on average which is the class’s average. The downside is that even though it seems to offer enough power it never really delivers, being slower than similarly powerful engines. The better choice would be the new 3.3 liter V6 which offers a much nicer 290 horsepower and 252 lb-ft of torque which together with the standard 6 speed automatic make for a really smooth and quite ride. The power delivery is instant and with a bit of care it can easily out run fast saloons with no problem. However, the best part of this engine is the fact that it offers the same fuel economy as the smaller and less powerful inline 4, but only when coupled to the front wheels.
A diesel option hasn’t been offered on it just yet and we don’t know for sure when it might come. However, the European models have it, so it should be a matter of time until it comes to the US.
2015 Kia Sorento interior
On the interior, the car will offer the same amount of equipment as before but this time it will offer it in a prettier way. The standard features will include automatic climate control, adjustable seats, premium cloth upholstery, a 6 speaker audio system with a small touch screen which controls it as well as USB and iPod connectivity. The higher end trims will go as far as leather upholstery, satellite navigation and even an infotainment system.
The exterior of the 2015 Kia Sorento is going to be very similar to the 2014 model. This will get the same front end but with a new back area. This will get rid of the chromed which was previously found there for a much cleaner look. The SX model on the other hand is going to feature different front and rear bumpers as well as color matched plastic moldings on the fenders for a sportier look. This model will also get the new 18 inch alloy wheels with the sport tires installed. The bad side is that it won’t be offering any performance upgrades.
