Toyota is well known for pioneering hybrid cars long before they were popular and they are doing it once again with the hydrogen electric cars. These fuel cell vehicles use hydrogen in order to generate electricity with the only exhaust being pure water. The 2015 Toyota Mirai is the first mass produced car in Toyota’s own FCV range. Unlike its predecessors, it is actually based on the new modular Prius platform, meaning it is lighter as well as easier to make than the ongoing model of the Prius.
2015 Toyota Mirai review
Unlike the Prius though, the Mirai has no petrol powered engine. Instead it uses one high capacity hydrogen tank which is then supplied to a fuel cell in order to make electricity. Thanks to this, the Mirai can run more than 300 miles with a single charge of hydrogen, charge which costs no more than a fuel tank of gas. There are a few disadvantages, the most important being that there are not that many hydrogen stations throughout the World but this will change for sure.
2015 Toyota Mirai price and release date
The car is going to be released in the late 2015 to early 2016 at a base price of 57.000 dollars in the US. In Europe on the other hand the Mirai will start at a more hefty 75.000 dollars but this should drop in the future.
2015 Toyota Mirai engine
As far as the engines goes, the new Toyota Mirai will get a small electric motor which can provide as much as 152 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque which is right the average of small family cars. This will be mated to a CVT gearbox for near instant power.
Storing all that power is going to be a small 1.6 kWh Nickel hydride battery which is likely to be changed to a lithium-ion one for less weight and easier maintenance. The only exhaust the car will make is going to be around 100ml of water for each mile traveled at full power which is outstanding.
2015 Toyota Mirai interior
On the interior, the car will be quite spacious. The inside of the car will resemble that of Prius but there are also going to be unique features. On the dashboard there will be an 8 inch screen which controls the satellite navigation, air conditioning and audio system. Electric seats and environment-friendly leather are going to be standard.
2015 Toyota Mirai exterior
The exterior of the 2015 Toyota Mirai on the other hand is going to be something fresh on the market. Both the front and back are aggressive with big air intakes and slim LED headlights and tail lights which offer the car a wider stance than it really has. This and the sloped rear window really give it a look fit for a sports car.
